Dr. Richard Steane

Richard has been practicing as a Consultant Psychiatrist since 2014.

He is experienced in the assessment and treatment of adults who are struggling with their mental health. He has a particular interest in working with people/tangata whai ora with a history of trauma and/or personality disorders.

Richard believes in developing a safe and compassionate therapeutic relationship. He is interested in trying to understand the journey of the people/tangata whai ora whom he works with, so that he may develop a treatment plan that is personalised to their needs.

Richard has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Australia and New Zealand. He has been back working in Christchurch since 2017.

He has also worked extensively with the Royal Australasian College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), where he has focused on his interest in ‘Early Career Psychiatrists’ and ‘Leadership and Management’.

He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer with the University of Otago.
